The Kinley of the future would not exist without the Lilydale Quarry of the past. Our estate won’t forget where it all started. We will restore and repurpose the site’s heritage buildings adding to Kinley’s character. The former Quarry’s owner, David Mitchell, was Dame Nellie Melba’s father, and famous in his own right having built many of Melbourne’s landmark buildings, including the World- Heritage listed Royal Exhibition Building.\n\nAs Kinley develops, two beautiful brick buildings, part of the area’s history since the late 1800s, will be restored. A former dairy and bacon-curing factory, both heritage-listed buildings will eventually be transformed into Kinley’s new community hub – the Heritage Quarter. Future residents and visitors will browse seasonal market stalls, stop in for brunch or lunch, take a class or enjoy a community event.\n\nAlong with the brick buildings, silos, kilns connected with Kinley’s former life will also be preserved. These heritage-listed structures were used in the quarry’s operations.
